Short Pump Fountain Concept
Short Pump Monument is a conceptual public art installation designed to celebrate the history and identity of Short Pump, Virginia.
Inspired by the original short-handled water pump that gave the area its name, the project reimagines this historic object as a contemporary glass sculpture. Drawing influence from Venetian glassmaking traditions encountered during my study abroad experience in Italy, the design transforms a utilitarian object into a large-scale civic landmark.
Proposed for the central fountain plaza of Short Pump Town Center, the sculpture would serve as both a visual centerpiece and an educational monument, connecting visitors to the origins of the community while creating a memorable public gathering place.
The project explores the intersection of history, public art, materiality, and placemaking through a site-specific design solution intended to endure as a permanent cultural landmark.Concept visualization
